Burnout / Constantly Dying

<= Back

This month, I decided to make a game that delivers a stressful time-management situation to players. Ironically, I had trouble managing my own time this month and neglected to post weekly devlogs like I usually do. Fortunately, I didn't completely neglect game development and I managed to produce somewhat of a demo for you all to play. It's nowhere near where I wanted it to be, but life can get pretty complicated sometimes. It just hit me that I've spent the past seven months working on game development almost every day. That's more than half a year. To be honest, I'm starting to burn out a little bit.

So, this month, I took a few days off from working on games. I think I've earned the break. It's not a complete loss - there's still a demo for you to play. Here's how it works:

The Demo - Instructions

The object of the game is simply to get to the end. Unfortunately, I didn't implement any sort of victory screen. However, you'll know when the game is over because your avatar will simply disappear at the end.

What's next?

I know I slacked off a little this month, but I'm going to make a comeback this August! This weekend is the GMTK Game Jam, which is always a lot of fun. Last year, it was the largest game jam on itch.io, and it's looking like there's going to be an even bigger turnout this year. The GMTK Game Jam always has an interesting theme which really chalenges your skills as a game designer. I'm going to participate in the jam and then continue working on the project for the rest of the month, polishing it and adding more content until I have a nice demo for you all to enjoy. Wish me luck in the jam, and I'll see you next month!
